Cyberpunk 2020 is coming to Blockbuster LARP

Mike Pondsmith’s dark future RPG is being adapted into massive high production live action events by Jackalope Live Action Studios, starting in 2019.

Jackalope Live Action Studios is proud to announce a new partnership with R. Talsorian Games to create official licensed blockbuster live action events based in the Cyberpunk 2020 universe. Focusing on recreating an immersive dark cyberpunk future, these events will have hundreds of participants participating in the high-tech low-life world of the iconic Cyberpunk RPG line, and will be the first officially license LARP events for the setting.

“Cyberpunk 2020 has been around a long time but up to now, we’ve never had a major LARP event for it,” said Mike Pondsmith, creator of Cyberpunk 2020, “We’re looking forward to seeing Cyberpunk in a whole new dimension–reality!”

“We’re extremely excited to deal with such an iconic setting, and to work with R. Talsorian in bringing this world to live. We have been fans of the RPG and the genre since we were kids, and the vision of Cyberpunk 2020 is so spot-on. The richness of the setting, the perfect tone, and just the sheer artistry of the execution. It’s an honor to bring this world into real life, at a time when the world is discovering the cyberpunk genre again in a big way,” said Matthew Webb, Creative Partner at Jackalope Live Action Studios, “We plan on bringing in not only our awesome writing and creative expertise, but also our experience with augmented reality and technology-enhanced LARP to make this a truly unique experience.”

Jackalope Live Action Studios has signed a multi-year licensing deal for the setting, and will be running immersive live action events for Cyberpunk 2020, starting in 2019 and beyond.

A War of Our Own, a LARP Based on This War of Mine

February 3, 2018 in Temple, Texas. Tickets on sale soon.

In war, not everyone is a soldier. In A War of Our Own, you are not a fighter. You are not a soldier. You are one of the civilians caught in the middle. You will try to survive, or maybe even escape. You will face constant danger, and need to focus on getting what you need to get through the next day.

A War of Our Own is a one-shot immersive live action event about survival, with proceeds going to benefit war refugee children.

In 2014, the ground-breaking video game This War of Mine was published by 11 bit studios. It stunned players with its harsh depiction of the civilian experience of war. Now, with their cooperation, Jackalope Live Action Studios will be creating a Live Action Role-Playing (LARP) experience inspired by the award-winning game, A War of Our Own.

Set in a fictional country torn by civil war, players will experience a small taste of the desperation of trying to survive in a war zone. The event is written with veterans of the NATO intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina; and the Iraq War; and in collaboration of refugee advocates throughout the world.  It will not be a power gamer experience, but one that tries to bring the harsh reality of war’s consequences to the player.

Jackalope Studios is partnering with Temple Airsoft to provide real military vehicles and full-size war-ravaged town for the event.

Fall 2018

The following events do not have firm dates, but are planned for this coming fall.

November 17, 2018 – Austin, TX

The Night In Question
A Texas Splatterpunk Horror LARP

The Night In Question is a fully-immersive rules-light LARP experience, taking the lessons and inspirations of the new Nordic-style games such as Enlightenment in Blood and End of the Line, then adding a horrific splatterpunk twist. Other games have focused on the Camarilla and Anarch aspects of the setting – the Masquerade, moving among the mortals in secrets and the politics of the undead. The Night in Question is different.

It will emphasize a frightening and engulfing story, focusing on the monstrosity of the Sabbat, visceral horror of their dark rites and a blood and guts feel reminiscent of films like From Dusk Til Dawn and Near Dark, creating a unique World of Darkness event using intense visual effects, high quality props, set design and costuming. It will be a “retro” Sabbat event, and will reflect a classic monstrous Sabbat mythos.
